After reading J.J.'s Portrait in rough feedback

So tired and exhausted recently. I feel I can hardly catch on the class ever and ever. Last night, I read James Joyce's Portrait til 2 am. However, I discovered his notion in standing his position of the theme such as death, time, women, and the relationship between sin and fidelity in terms of religion. Actually, it's quite cool to read his work since I feel like I am standing his viewpoint in criticizing the social phenomena. Portrait should be the book poured by his autobiographical style. And, to be an artist, he keeps seeking the real world where he can rely on and can combine both hatred and love. The instinct of being an artist discloses his character in his young age as a teenager. Nonetheless, Stephen, the protagonist, can be instinct to perceive the unknown power of the taste in artistic sense. This significantly points out the very core of the artist he would like to be. And I wish I could learn more and read deeper in Joyce's intention and experimental techniqu...

A Seaside Walk with Prof. Susan Suleiman

Image
Prof. Susan Suleiman, the professor from American Harvard University, had gave her speech for her work in seminar style called Crises of Memory and Second World War in the College of Liberal Arts, NSYSU. Briefly speaking in this paper, Prof. Suleiman discussed the loss and trauma of 1.5 generation which she called, and how they experienced that in representing their historical memory unconsciously by inventing the techniques and form in writing a fiction. Prof. Suleiman put emphasis on "how" to tell the story rather than "why." She viewed the survivors as an individual which embodies the personal historical memory by selves. After the speech, my classmates and I had a great time with Prof. Susan Suleiman through peaceful small talk and wander at the beach from NSYSU. Prof. Suleiman looked alive when she stood at the beach and saw a large track of sea in front of her. Somehow her back reminded me of a leading actress in the film, Titanic, the old lady Lora...
Yes, loads of papers to read and a great many oral presentations needed to prepare. Something happens to me, our professor keeps giving us the papers which are all based on the idea of diaspora, but it really annoys me in grasping the meaning behind the text within. I feel depressed and frustrated since I can hardly stand the shoes on someone losing their family or ancestors or some other reason related to the very concept of "Home." I really don't have a clue, and I feel I can't do that kind of research anymore. No, certainly not. Besides this, to raise a question with deeper issue or profound concept. Others can but I can't!! Why? It seems that something goes extreme in my brain, fails to confront the predicament I have at present. And I always know that I lack those experiences in living, I mean, something about life, sympathy, and epiphany so on. This time, I kind of hate the young age for myself. The unknown situation, the unknown knowledge, and the unknown f...
